Rayon to Build $7 Million Plant (August 8, 1936)
Huge Factory on Lake Front Near Painesville Is Announced by Rivitz
The Industrial Rayon Corporation will build a huge manufacturing plant on the Lakefront three miles northeast of Painesville.
The plant will be erected as soon as possible on a 407-acre tract at a reported cost of between $7,500,000 and $10,000,000, according to an announcement credited to Hiram S. Rivitz, president of the firm.
The property known as the old Parmly estate was purchased by the rayon corporation last week and has a half-mile frontage on the lake.
It is bordered on the west by Bacon Road.
When completed the plant will manufacture rayon by the viscose process and will employ between 800 and 900 persons.
A full year probably will be required for the construction work.
The main structure will be in eight separate departments. The buildings will be similar in appearance to the Covington (Ky) factory.
The Painesville project is part of a $15,000,000 expansion program planned by the company. The rest of the program includes the building of a $3,000,000 addition to the firms main plant here and erection of a factory for manufacturing of rayon machinery and equipment.
The annual output of the Painesville factory will be about 12,500,000 million pounds of rayon, about 1,000,000 pounds greater than the output of the company's model plant at Covington. The Cleveland plant produces 7,000,000 pounds annually.
