Driving & Parking Directions

These directions to Special Collections begin at the intersection of Chester Avenue and East 22nd Street.
(see maps at bottom of this page)

If you know how to get to East 22nd & Chester Avenue, skip down to the next section. Remember that East 22nd Street is one-way going north in the blocks before and after the Chester intersection.

To reach East 22nd & Chester via the interstate highways:

From the south and west, come to the junction of I-90 east, I-71 north and I-77 north, cross the high-level interstate bridge across the river, heading towards Progressive (formerly Jacobs) Field stadium, and exit at the East 22nd Street exit. Turn left at the end of the ramp and proceed a couple of major intersections, crossing Prospect and Euclid Avenue, and traveling under the overhead campus plaza to Chester.

From the north, coming in on the Shoreway (I-90 west), exit at Prospect Street. Turn right at the top of the ramp and proceed down Prospect a block to the light at East 22nd Street. Turn right again and the next light north is Euclid Avenue. Pass through that intersection and travel under the overhead campus plaza to Chester.

To reach East 22nd & Chester via local streets:

From the west, come across the Lorain-Carnegie Bridge (Hope Memorial Bridge), proceed east on Carnegie to East 22nd Street and turn left. Go north on 22nd St. several blocks to Chester.

From downtown, come out Euclid Avenue to East 22nd Street, turn left and Chester's one block up. You may also take the free "E-Line" RTA bus. It is a loop bus that connects Public Square, the Warehouse District and the CSU campus.

From the east, on Euclid, Prospect or Carnegie, drive west to East 22nd Street and turn right. Go north to Chester.

From the east on Superior or St. Clair, come west to East 30th Street, turn left and go south to Chester Avenue. Turn right and proceed to East 22nd Street.

From the south, find your way to one of the interstates or one of the major arterials mentioned above and follow the directions for them.

To reach Special Collections from the corner of Chester and E. 22nd:

Go north from Chester on East 22nd Street and the first driveway on the left, just a few yards from Chester, is a driveway leading back to a Visitor Parking lot. There are also some parking meters along Chester. When you find a space, come across Chester towards Rhodes Tower, the 19-story, pre-cast concrete tower with the green "CSU" around the top floor. Come around the the south side of the tower, midway between East 21st and East 22nd to an entrance, flanked by outdoor stairways. Take either the stairs or the elevator inside, up to the plaza level, overhead.

From the plaza level, come into the lobby of Rhodes Tower and go all the way to the right-hand end of the lobby, were you will find the library behind a bank of glass doors. Come into the library, through the security devices, and the elevators will be to your left. Come up to the third floor and Special Collections will be behind the brown doors off the elevator lobby.

If you get lost, or have other questions, the telephone number for Special Collections is (216) 687-2449. You may dial simply 2449 from any campus phone.

Maps

View a larger driving map for the Cleveland Metropolitan region - (Note that you can switch to a street level view of your journey by finding the little orange man, located at the top of the map's zoom slider on the left, and dragging him over to the map, which causes streets to become outlined in blue. Releasing him at your point of interest, the screen will switch to a sidewalk-level view, which you can nagivate at your heart's content.)
